The Rhinoplasty Procedure

- Open Rhinoplasty - An open rhinoplasty involves an incision made along the columella, the thin strip of skin separating the nostrils. Through this incision, a surgeon can revise the bridge, tip, and various underlying structures of the nose. This means more control over the final results.
- Closed Rhinoplasty - A closed rhinoplasty involves incisions made entirely inside of the nostrils. All work is done within these hidden incisions, which can mean limited control over the final results of surgery.
Whatever technique is used, surgeons will attempt to deproject the tip. This process means reshaping the cartilage in the tip of the nose so it is not so pointy. This can be done using sutures or actually removing just a little bit of cartilage from the tip.
