Effective Cosmetic Treatments for Drooping Cheeks By Hove Center for Facial Plastic Surgery on January 31, 2019

Woman with full cheeksUnfortunately, aging, gravity, and environmental elements affect the appearance of the skin. As a result, skin loses its elasticity over time, and facial features begin to droop and sag.

One area of the face that patients commonly complain about when it comes to sagging skin is the cheeks. As the cheeks lose volume, they can significantly age a person’s appearance.

Cosmetic surgery and dermal fillers can restore volume to facial features and improve facial contours. Dr. Christopher Hove offers a number of treatments for drooping cheeks at our Paoli, PA facial plastic surgery center. He is happy to help patients find a procedure that will best meet their unique needs.

Cheek Implants

Facial implants are a surgical solution for hollow or droopy cheeks. There are many cheek implants available, so Dr. Hove can select an implant that can restore the desired amount of volume, while still keeping the facial proportions balanced out.

Cheek implants are placed with the patient under the effects of sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Hove will make an incision that the implants can be passed through. In most cases, Dr. Hove is able to create the incision in the lower eyelid or inside the upper lip, so remaining scars are small and easily hidden.

Recovery from implant surgery is typically fairly short compared to other plastic surgery procedures, and the benefits of cheek implants should last a lifetime.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are an excellent cosmetic treatment option for patients who want to fill out the cheeks without undergoing surgery. Dermal fillers are injected into the skin and essentially act as temporary implants.

There are multiple dermal fillers offered at Dr. Hove’s practice, including Juvederm™, Restylane®, and Radiesse™. Dr. Hove will choose a filler that is most appropriate for the patient’s cosmetic needs and desires. Although each case is unique, Radiesse™ is the filler most commonly used to fill and lift droopy cheeks.

Radiesse™ is injected deeper into the skin than other dermal fillers, so it is effective at restoring volume to the cheeks, and also lasts longer than most injectables. Although treatment results are not permanent, most patients can go six to nine months before needing another set of injections.

The greatest benefit of Radiesse™ is the speed of treatment (a session can be completed in well under an hour), the lack of recovery (no downtime is required after treatment), and the minimal risks of treatment.

Radiesse™ contains a biocompatible compound, calcium hydroxylapatite, which can be safely absorbed by the body, so it is unlikely to cause any complications or allergic reactions.
